WOW! I love Asian baked goods and when we found this place we ordered one of everything. Great selection of sweet and savory buns along with Asian treats. The pork bun is great and the hot dog buns...yes hot dog buns are some of the best I've had. Very authentic bakery located on State Rd. 7 in the same complex as Silver Pond. I love the food but the customer service isn't so great... We walked in at closing time, opened the door and were told they were closed and we couldn't buy anything. Sad because there were 100 plus baked goods that were just sitting there. Oh well, the buns are worth it and we will get there earlier next time. Ohhh, Cash Only and they close right on time if not 5 mins early!

The baked BBQ pork bun is tasty, many of their pastries are good and the customer service is always pleasant when I go.

I wished it was the actual maxim bakery that you find at most subway stations in Hong Kong. I was excited to see one open in south Florida but when I check this place out I give it 3 stars. Location was a bit sketchy but there are a couple of Asian stores around so you would see Asians here and there lol I give it a star for the variety from char siu pow to curry chicken filled buns to egg tarts and cake rolls. Kind of wished they had more dessert though lol So I got the char siu bun and it was ok. The ones from Mary Ann bakery in north Miami is sooo much better. Even though they were huge, they weren't warm and as good as Mary Ann. Filling and flavour was good but lacked the meat and 'love' Lolol. Maybe if it was warmer it'll be good. I also got the egg custard tart and I would have to say it's pretty good. Crust held up well but I also wished it was warmer. I'd want to try the cake rolls next time. I would give it a star for the portions cause they're huge and for under $2 it's a good price. Would I visit again? Probably to try other buns and the cake rolls. Maybe if I asked for freshly baked ones they might haven given me lol. But I'm glad there's another Asian bakery in SoFlo and I hope there's more opening!

As a Chinese person, the bread here isn't all that great. It's on the pricey side too at around $1.30 for each bread. The bread has a lack of taste and perhaps it needs a bit more butter. They do sell birthday cakes which taste pretty good. They decorate it very nicely with fruits and cream. I recommend Maxim for birthday cakes, but not for bread.

This little oriental bakery is fantastic! We were dining at a restaurant nearby and decided to pop in. I actually found it on Yelp earlier that day not knowing it was right down the street from dinner! Our first visit we didn't have any cash but still wanted to check it out to see what all they had. Walking in the door I asked to make sure they did not take card and ONLY CASH. She confirmed and as we were walking around looking at all the delicious buns, the lady behind the counter prepared a goodie bag for us! It was the sweetest thing ever!! She wanted us to atleast have a try of their best sellers! She put a Pork Bun and Custard Bun in our bag which we didn't discover until opening the bag when we were back home! Also, the way she folded up the bag securely with just folds was a pretty cool touch! Second visit within 24 hours it was game on! We ordered everything that looked good to us! A total of 7 sweets and buns! This round we wanted to try it all so we got a good mix! Hotdog Bun~ Curry Beef Bun~ Lotus Bean Egg Crispy~ Pineapple Coconut Bun~ Pineapple Cream Bun~ Pineapple Roll~ Strawberry Roll!! A lotta buns there! And all for only $12; what a great deal! We enjoyed the majority of the buns, all being fresh and with good flavor! We will definitely be back for some more savory buns. I wish I knew the name of the lady behind the counter the first night but customer service is definitely here! Very patient and will answer any questions you have! They also have two coolers in the back full of different bottled and canned drinks! Remember this bakery is CASH ONLY!! Yay for BUNS!!

Be prepared for 2 things: CASH ONLY and having to deal with a mean counter girl. Large choices of Chinese Baked goods, reasonable prices. ALL wheat, ALL Gluten products. For rice products go 2 doors down. Memorable counter girl, she was so mean, it was literally comical. We started laughing at her, didn't know what else to do.

I stumbled on this gem while dining a few doors down. I just happened to be waiting on food, when they told me that it'll be a bit longer due to large orders entering the kitchen. Browsing on yelp, and this bakery popped up. Being in a new place, I was definitely skeptical. I remembered finding a crowded chinese bakery in London, but it was definitely not up to my liking. So, I was hesitant to order too much from here. What a mistake that was. Unfortunately I didn't discover that mistake until much too late. I was already on my way to the airport. So, down to my opinion: Pork buns are very yummy. Lots of filling! Custard bun: not too bad, had significant filling also, and not too sweet. Curry Beef triangle: still flakey the next day. So overall, I'm missing this place. Oh, and as for service, the soft spoken man who helped us that night was very nice. We went in around 8-ish. Pricing, I voted for moderate, only because it's a little more expensive than what we have here in California. But, it might be inexpensive for Florida, so I'm not positive it's an accurate indicator. Most items in the store were priced at $1.50. And since I"m on vacation missing my Chinese food, $1.50 wasn't too much of a stretch to fill that want.

My mother actually knows the owner, and I've had a chance to walk through the back and it's so nice to see all the dough rising and being prepped and buns being baked. I can see how service can be lacking; however, I really love the buns here. My favorites are the coconut whipped cream bun, the sponge cakes, jelly rolls, and the cakes (with fruit and whipped cream topping! so light and delish!). There's a lot of little knick-knacks as well on the wall and some Asian snacks. Some interesting features I've seen are moon cakes (not during the Lunar festival too!), French crepe cake (a light crepe covers a sponge cake that has a light filling), and baklava (don't know if that's made in-house). My suggestion for dealing with the cashier? Just point to what you want and don't bother asking for suggestions or what it is... if you're curious about something, just buy it and try it yourself! ' Also it's CASH ONLY!

Decent buns. They were fresh and tasty. Awful, unfriendly, and unappreciative service. This grumpy woman that owns the place makes you feel guilty for bothering her while she is scanning her iPhone. She's like this every time.

I don't know what is it with chinese people, but the girl at the counter = NOT friendly = uber mean. Getting that b****y attitude, don't know how to describe it if it's typically how chinese people behave, but oh my god..... she was special. Just like the review from Gloria S., right on!! I don't know how you can sell much with such an attitude!! Luckily for them it's probably because some bakery goods are good and there is no place in South Florida to get it. We bought some baked goods and a vanilla roll. If you go, I strongly suggest you buy any type of roll, it's so soft!!! I bought it on Friday, today is Sunday and it's perfectly fine. We ordered a cake a couple of years ago, those are good too, they are quite different from the local ones. To start with, the cream is light and the cake dough is so soft!!! I believe they use potato dough. They only get 4 stars because of the bakery NOT on service. I don't know what's worse, us talking to the mean woman in cantonese or english, either way... she's mean!!!

The baked goods really aren't that great compared to what I had become accustomed to back home, but being the only Asian bakery within a 40 mile radius, it's where I'll get my lardy carb fix now and then. If you've never tried Asian breads or if you find yourself missing Asian pastries you used to have regularly elsewhere, it's worth checking the place out. But when summer vacation rolls around, I'm going back home to gorge on the good stuff--it's not as bad as it sounds--I figure when I come back to Florida after a summer, it'll be so hot that I'll just sweat off all the added pounds. Perfect.

The baked goods here is 3 stars. Everything is perfect for the Asian palate: not too sweet. Things here tasted very fresh. I had to take a star away because of the customer service. The old man was quite rude and I highly suspect it is due to lack of sex. I asked him if the light beige color cake was coffee flavor, and he looked at me as if I asked the dumbest question in the world. "no, it chocolate." Not once did he seemed happy, as if we were disrupting him from his duties in the back. HELLO... Turn off the open sign and lock the front door. When I went to pay, my husband pulled out his debit card. Instead if saying, "sorry we don't take credit/debit cards" he said in the rudest manner "cash only". I had to remind my husband that Asian establishments do cash to avoid keeping the books. This old fart snatch the money out of my hand. I guess he didn't like the dirty look I gave him, he was gentler (but still rude) on giving back my change.

When I am in town, I like to surprise my folks with a few treats from Maxim's bakery. They specialize in mostly Chinese baked goods. They have a nice selection of moon cakes, melon cakes, egg tarts, roasted pork buns, jelly rolls, and cakes. Their pastries are so good, I never hear a single compliant from my folks and they are super picky. FYI- CASH ONLY!!!!

I found this place because I wanted some Asian bakery and this one had great reviews. But after trying it, I don't see what the hype was. I'm giving it a two stars review because like the rating suggested, "Meh. I've experienced better.", I really have had better. I had the egg tart, lemon roll, and the coconut icing bun. My boyfriend had the lemon roll and he said it was good, but I did not like the egg tart because the crust was not fresh and flaky, and the coconut bun was not sweet enough. The price was a bit more than I expected, but it's not too bad. The service was pretty terrible (like everyone here suggested). The lady there had this angry look through out our visit. Even when we gave her money she didn't smile and was kinda rude. But I wouldn't really be bothered by that because you go there for the food.

The worker was really not affable, but whatevs. We tried a pork bun and bavarian cream one. It was the most expensive pork bun that I've ever had at $1.50. The lightness of the bavarian cream means that you can taste the individual ingredients - you can taste the porkiness of the lard they used. Ick. I think it's compounded by using a shortening instead of butter so that the products can sit out all day unrefridgerated. Details they should take care of in such a light pastry. Blech.

decent chinese pastries. they need to work on their customer service!!!!

Great delicious desserts. Yummy! I tried a little bit of everything and everything was great. I brought it home, and in less than a minute the entire box is empty. Its decently priced, not too expensive, and the lady there was nice. Im not an expert on Asian desserts but I know that we all enjoyed it.

Quite a drive from Delray Beach, but well worth it. I happen to notice a "check in" at Maxim Bakery from a Facebook friend and thought I would read up on this place via Yelp. I'm glad I did! I made the drive to Maxim, walked in and realized that I was in heaven. I bought the roast pork buns (1.50), whipped cream bun (1.30) and sponge cake tart (1.20). I also walked in the Asian market a couple doors down and purchased a few items. Bonus: Lychee hard candy! I couldn't wait to get home to eat....so I devoured one of the pork buns. Wow...super delicious! There is more bun than there is filling, but fine with me...still very satisfying. Everything is reasonably priced. Cash$cash$cash ONLY.

The Secret Recipe 1 car, 1 fruit cake, 1/2 table, 1 fork, and 1/4 empty stomach Yes, that is the secret recipe to enjoying the delectable fruit cake from Maxim. This Asian bakery is located in Fort Lauderdale hidden amongst the many Asian stores, so the first step is use that 1 car and drive over to Fort Lauderdale. Next, when you are feeling overwhelmed by what to get at an Asian bakery, just forget it all and order that Fruit Cake. 1 fruicake should do it. It is amazing. Now get back in the car and race on home. When at home, all you need is 1/2 table for the cake and you. Now do not forget that 1 fork. You are going to need it to get that cake in your mouth unless you are a barbarian. Lastly, make sure to have at least a 1/4 empty stomach to digest this delight of a cake. If you follow this recipe, you will come to find how this fruit cake is amazingly light and fresh. Combined with the fresh fruit used for the cake, it is really to die for. Just be careful, you will keep coming back for some more and before you know it you may find yourself rolling around instead of walking.

WHOA PORK BUNS!! I found this place by chance, because it is next to the BBQ Duck place, but their buns are big, delicious and cheap. I had a pork bun and a custard filled bun. I was in heaven. Can't wait to go back and try more. They have all kinds to choose from. Bring Cash!

  • Lucy W.

Honestly, I don't go here as often as MaryAnne because it's further away and a bit more expensive per bread. Some of the breads are really good while others taste the same. I haven't tried that many but judging from others their bread may actually be better. I haven't tried their cakes yet though. I definitely should. I've had enough bread in a lifetime from China that I don't particularly crave buns anymore. My bf was in China too and there were a few breads here that he really liked which is surprising bc he's not Asian and is also tired of bread from eating it for over a year in China for breakfast. I guess it's bring on the American breakfast if you overeat on Asian bread. And yes, cash only.

I Just give 3 star because the people in there are soooooo rude and miserable!!! I don't know why they treat customers so bad! But... The pastries are AWESOME.... that's why I go back, and deal with bad customer service in there....

I think we can all agree that the service here is less than satisfying but I'm rating this 5 stars for the awesome red bean and winter melon buns! Awesome price - $1.50! Highly recommended on the condition that you disregard the service, not come during closing time expecting to buy goods and get out of the store as soon as you buy!

My family and I used to make a pilgrimage of 2 hours from West Coast Florida to East Coast Florida just to visit the Maxim Oriental Bakery. We've been loyal customers of Maxim for I don't know how many years now! This authentic Asian bakery is located in Ft. Lauderdale amongst other Asian stores (Silver Pond Chinese Restaurant & an Asian market). It's definitely efficient and delicious all at once to stop by this area if you're in the mood for Asian cuisine. I'm a pretty simple person in that I LOVE the Pineapple buns! That's all I generally want from any Asian bakery. I have sampled Pineapple buns from Taiwan, China, California, and many other places in Florida. I can tell you that the Pineapple buns from Maxim are my absolute favorite! The delicious, yellow crust that sits on top of the bread just melts in your mouth! So crispy and just the right amount of sweetness. There is always a good amount of people rushing in and out of the restaurant, so you know it's good. They usually only take cash only. The store owners seems to speak limited English, but they are really sweet people.

My hubby grew up in San Francisco and we recently moved to S. Florida - so, he was dying for some pork buns. After doing a little research on Yelp, we found Maxim Oriental Bakery. He looooves the pork buns here. In fact, he has been going over there at least once every couple of weeks to pick up a box of pork buns to enjoy throughout the week. Although I do not eat meat, I did try some of their meatless buns and I have to say.. the dough is divine.. so light and fluffy! Why a 4 instead of a 5? It's kind of a drive.. so it's not very convenient for a quick run to the bakery :(

Before you go there be prepared for one thing, CASH ONLY. MMMmmm DE-LI-CI-OUSly good! I can smell that bakery essence just stepping out from my car. Yes, I get a huge sweet smile when I go there. I love their pineapple buns, red-bean bun, and other buns!!! They make really good buns that I know so far with a good price, pretty sweet deal. Now, whether it's cultural, personality, jitterbug, &/or other issues the counter girl is okay. Yes, I know and I heard but going there many times she is alright. Maybe there are just too many crazy folks who are just not good enough customers in her view. Anyways, if you are hungry and craving for sweets. GO over there NOW!

I am so happy to have found an authentic Asian bakery here in SoFL. We've had the roast pork buns and the coconut rolls - both of which I absolutely love. I have only been here once but will definitely be returning to try some moon cakes and other tasty pastries from this bakery.

This whole shopping center is a treasure trove of Asian food! We always stop here for buns after we eat at Silver Pond or Saigon City. We love the ham and green onion buns and the bacon buns! The slightly sweet bread combined with the salty savory meat is so delicious. The pork buns are good but I think that Tropical Chinese Restaurant in Miami does the best pork buns in South Florida.

Love to pick up several Chinese buns when I'm in the area. My favorite are the custard-filled buns. Eaten fresh & warm, or slightly heated up in the microwave...mmmm. A trickle of customers is constantly coming in the door.

Totally tasty Asian bakery found here on State Road 7 or 441 as its known in this part of central Broward. The place smells sweetly and puts me in a good mood. The baked goodies move quickly here, especially on weekends. I really like their custard buns and mini fruit tarts. I've been trying their coffee-cake roll too. This bakery is located in a strip mall with a bunch of other asian-themed shops.

Last time I went here, I could smell cigrrette smoke inside the bakery. Also, the guy serving dropped the tongs on the floor, picked them up, didn't wash them and continued serving. The food is good, but cleanliness factor has to improve.

Loooove this place. Best Asian bakery in Broward. They have bread pork buns and if you want white dough pork buns, there's another bakery in the plaza that has it too! It's smaller and next to the post office, but anyways this place is great
